Awesome Autumnal wedding at Somersbury Barn, Surrey
Alex & Ivor // Somersbury Barn
Somersbury Barn captures your heart as soon as you make your approach down the oak lined lane. It really is a dreamlike setting within the rolling Surrey countryside. Nestled amongst 30 acres of ancient trees, wildflower meadows, and orchards it is a photographer’s dream setting with beautiful backdrops all around you, and just wait until you see inside the barn!
Somersbury Barn has undergone a carefully managed restoration programme keeping to rustic origins and is now an impressive space with high vaulted ceilings, timber doors and window frames. When decked out with the long trestle tables it has all the right elements to make it feel like a truly magnificent setting for a celebratory feast! The most picture perfect 16th century house tucked behind the barn is absolutely charming and has a truly magical feel about it and is where the morning preparations take place.
Alex and Ivor had previously seen me at work from a wedding they attended a few years previous. I also knew they had the potential to be quite a lively bunch by the evening and I wasn’t let down by the dance floor shenanigans!
During the morning preparations the bridal squad settled into the beautiful main house, along with plenty of baked goods from Gails and bubbles to keep them going! Makeup & hair was expertly carried out by Liz Patey bringing elegance and that touch of glam to just finish the look. Buds on Bunch Lane were the florists on the day adding fresh, vibrant flowers throughout the day from bouquets to button holes.
The ceremony was held in the meadow under the canvas tipi and had elements to make it a unique and personal event; from brilliant readings to the group singalong, personal vows and all expertly led by a family friend as the role of celebrant. Confetti, with an impressive dip kiss, followed and led onto the outside drinks reception. With some groups and candids ticked off I got a few photos of the Somersbury Barn laid out for the wedding breakfast before taking the newlyweds off for a few moments to have some couple photos around the stunning garden.
We returned for Alex to do her speech to a receptive and warm audience before they were heartily welcomed into the barn for the more speeches and the delicious meal provided Browns Kitchen. As the evening rolled in I took Alex and Ivor off for one last break together to catch the last light and give them some time out together. It’s always a great opportunity for couples to just spend reflecting on the day thus far before diving back into the action. And what action lay in store! Great music by The Invitations Band and a crowd just ready to party ensured that the good times just kept on coming and with Surrey Wood Hills Pizza providing sustenance into the night the energy levels remained high throughout! If guests wanted a break they could spill out to the Victorian Glasshouse which came alive in the evening with hanging bulbs for a place to relax and chat away from the music.
All in all it was a truly wonderful Autumn wedding at Somersbury Barn for Alex and Ivor. I can’t wait to come back to this stunning venue someday soon!
